It didn't take Adrienne Martini a whole year to knit the sweater you see in the photo. She spent part of the time tracking down the out-of-print pattern and the out-of-production yarn. And she made a few side trips to commune with fellow knitters about Alice Starmore, the elusive (and litigious) creator of the devilish Mary Tudor design.
In the end, she had both a sweater and a book: Sweater Quest: My Year of Knitting Dangerously (Free Press, $15).
