Socks are the quintessential project. They are basically knit tubes yet the myriad different ways they can be constructed is enough to keep a knitter coming back. And as a project, they are supremely functional and everyone wears them. Add into that equation, the amazing fiber that is being created specifically for socks and socks are definitely the project of the moment. So good sock books are very vogue.

This book helps you envision and create your own socks by providing different stitch patterns and directions on how to knit them many different was. Each set of directions applies to the number of stitches contained in a repeat – 4, 6, 8 etc – and provides instructions to knit with 4-dpn, 5-dpn, and 2-circulars. Then choices are given for different types of heels and toes. It’s really similar to the “Choose Your Adventure” books I used to read as a kid.

What really sets this book apart is all the sample socks that are pictured. They have different constructions, use different yarns and are sure to get your creative juices flowing.

In addition to the simple stitch patterns, the stranded patterns, tessellated patterns and mosaics are beautiful (examples above). There is also a lot of great reference material including multiple cast-ons, cast-offs, standard sizing and the like. If socks are your thing, this is a great book to add to your collection.
