Directions

Body to Armholes

With circular 29″ knitting needle, cast on 102 (112, 122) stitches. Turn work- do not work in the round.

Row 1: K2, P2 across.
Row 2: P across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 2″.

Continue in Stockinette stitch until piece measures 13″(13 ½”, 14). End with a P row.

Work Right Front

You will now begin working the first 26 (28,30) stitches for the right front of the sweater. Starting at the opposite end, place the last 26 (28,30) stitches on one stitch holder and the middle 50 (56,62) stitches on another stitch holder. You should have 26 (28,30) stitches still remaining on the needle. Continue working in St st while casting off 3 stitches at the armhole edge twice. When 16″ from the beginning, start the neck shaping by binding off 1 stitch at the neck edge 6 (8, 10) times. Continue working in St st until piece is 21″ (22″,23″) or your preferred length. Bind off loosely.

Work Left Front

Attach yarn and work the 26 (28,30) stitches for the Left Front the same as Right Front, but reverse shaping.

Work Back

Attach yarn and work the 50 (56,62) stitches for the back by continuing in St st. Cast off 3 stitches at the beginning of the next 4 rows and then work until the piece is the same length as the right and left front. Bind off loosely.

Sleeves

Seam the shoulders together with your method of choice. Using the 16″ circular needle, pick up 48 (50, 52) stitches around the armhole. Join to work in the round and place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round. Work for 4″ in St st, then decrease 1 stitch around each side of the marker, every 5 stitches, until desired length minus 2 inches. For sleeve edging,

Round 1: K2, P2 around.
Round 2: P across.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until piece measures 2″.
Bind off loosely.

Repeat for second sleeve.

Collar

Using the 29″ circular needle, pick up 48 stitches around the neck edge. Do not work in the round.

Row 1: K2, P2 across.
Row 2: P across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 4″ or desired collar length.

Button Bands

Using the 29″ circular needle, pick up 50 stitches on the right front. Do not work in the round.

Row 1: K2, P2 across.
Row 2: P across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 3 times. Bind off loosely.

Using the 29″ circular needle, pick up 50 stitches on the left front. Do not work in the round.

Row 1: K2, P2 across.
Row 2: P across.
Row 3: K2, P2 across, but on the 3rd, 19th, 39th, and 47th stitch K2tog or P2tog and the YO for the button hole. Row 4: P across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2. Bind off loosely.

Finishing

Sew on buttons.
